Maria Scotto Rinaldi

Maria Scotto Rinaldi

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Maria Scotto Rinaldi, 78, of Parkersburg, who passed away peacefully at her residence on April 24, 2026.

Maria was born on August 1, 1947, in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of the late Giovanni Cacciuttolo and Louisa Di Meglio.

Maria was a loving and devoted mother and a dear friend to all whose lives she touched. She especially cherished her role as “Nonna,” bringing joy, warmth, and laughter to her family. She was known for her vivacious and affectionate personality. Maria had a gift for making those around her laugh.

She loved the beach, swimming, and soaking up the sun while working on her tan. Maria had a passion for travel and enjoyed exploring new places, but she also felt deeply at home in her beloved second hometown of Monte di Procida, Naples, Italy, where she treasured time spent with family and lifelong friends. She found great joy in shopping for and giving unique gifts to those she loved, and she cherished every moment gathered around the table, whether enjoying a home-cooked meal or dining out. She captured so many of these memories through her many photographs.

As a young girl, Maria returned to Italy with her family, where she would later meet her husband. Following their marriage, they moved to the United States and, together with family, founded The Pizza Place in Parkersburg, West Virginia, in 1976. Before settling in Parkersburg, Maria worked on the NATO base in Naples, Italy, and later in New York City as a secretary, where she was known for her remarkable typing speed of over 100+ words per minute.

Surviving are her children: Teresa, Lisa (Danny) and Cipriano Giovanni “Ryan,” her grandchildren: Hannah, Alexander, Gabriele, Christian, Francesca, Mia and Marina; and her precious “Bella Gioia” and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Maria was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Franco Scotto Rinaldi and her two sisters: Angela Ruscitto and Aurelia “Ray” Mari.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, April 29 11AM at Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church with Very Reverend Sebastian Devasya officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday 5-8PM at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with recitation of the Rosary at 7:30PM.

The family is accepting flowers. If you prefer to make a memorial contribution in honor of Maria R. Scotto Rinaldi, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Parkersburg Humane Society.
