George David “Dave” Treharne

George David “Dave” Treharne, 83, passed away April 20, 2026, after a life devoted to family, friendship, and service to his community.

Dave was born in 1943 in Wausau, Ohio, to Samuel and Marjorie Treharne. He grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, alongside his sister Jean Wagner, who preceded him in death in 2024. He graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1960 and later attended West Virginia University in Morgantown, where he received his bachelor’s degree in 1964. He went on to earn his MBA from Ohio University in 1968.

Dave began his career working in his family’s 7-UP distribution business before pursuing opportunities in business development and community leadership. In the early 1970s he became involved in housing development projects focused on providing low-income housing. In the mid-1970s he moved to Parkersburg, West Virginia, where he helped manage Nestler’s Market, founded by his father-in-law Harold Nestler, and later established a regional food wholesaling company, Treharne Foods.

In the late 1980s Dave returned to community development work, serving as Executive Director of West Virginia Community Action until his retirement in 2005. Following retirement, he pursued a passion for aviation, earning his flight instructor certification and establishing a flight school at Wood County Regional Airport.

Dave and his wife Judy were married for 62 years, having met and married in 1964. Together they raised two children, Heath and Heather. Their daughter Heather preceded him in death in 2019.

After retiring, Dave and Judy moved permanently to Cedar Key, Florida in 2011, where they became active members of the community and Christ Episcopal Church.

Dave will be remembered as a kind and caring leader who led by example and found fulfillment in helping others. He enjoyed flying, art, learning about the places he lived, and traveling with his wife and family.

He is survived by his wife Judy; his son Heath and daughter-in-law Cindy; and his four grandchildren, Patrick, Ryan, Morgan, and Jack.

A memorial service will be held in June at Christ Episcopal Church in Cedar Key, Florida.

Dave’s legacy is one of generosity, service to community, and love for the people and places that shaped his life.
