Bernard O’Neal Tice

Bernard was born on January 9, 1931 in Sugar Creek, Pleasants County, West Virginia to his parents Cecil Bernard “Dick” Tice, and Thelma Beatrice (Brammer) Tice. He passed away on April 17, 2026 in Costa Rica. He grew up on Sugar Creek in Pleasants County, West Virginia, where he helped to build the home place he grew up in. The farm is still in the family, to this day, owned by Mark and Kimberly Bartrug. Bernard raised his family in Wick, West Virginia then moved to St. Marys in 1971. He began Tice Builders and TOF (Two Old Farts) Builders, building homes and businesses in St. Marys, Washington D. C., Virginia, and surrounding areas. He also constructed Hadley Manor apartments in St. Marys, West Virginia and Middlebourne Manor apartments in Middlebourne, West Virginia. He was a successful entrepreneur and owned various other companies throughout his lifetime, such as L & B Oil, American Pipeline & Exploration, Ditcher-Saw, and Rancho Aloe in Costa Rica.

Bernard had several friends and a loving family. He enjoyed riding horses, flying airplanes, building anything, and spending time with his family. He lived a long and happy life and died peacefully.

He was preceded in death by his parents Dick and Bea Tice, his sister and brother-in-law, Sally and Charles Bartrug, and his brother John Tice.

He is survived by his wife Marietta, his two children, his daughter Judy LaVaughn Mellor (Mark) and his son Steve Lee Tice (Kimberly). He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Amy Michelle Gough, Paul Bryan Wise, II (Charity), Bradford O’Neal Lewis, and Aaron Lee Tice, also four great grandchildren, Scott Michael Gough, Bethany Rachelle Huber (Hunter), Gavin Levi Wise, and Gannon Tice Wise, also two great-great grandchildren, Huxley Rhett Huber and Amelia June Huber.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed. There will be a memorial service held May 2nd at 1:00 pm at the residence of Judy Mellor. Her address is 54 Huber Drive, Parkersburg, West Virginia. Everyone is welcome and we will celebrate the life of Bernard.
