Kathi L. Alfred

Kathi L. Alfred

Kathi L. Alfred, 64 of Veto, OH, passed away February 25, 2026, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH.

She was born in Parkersburg, WV. January 1, 1962, the daughter of the late Wilford “Lee” Ashwell and Janice “Jan” Lorain Faith Ashwell of Vienna, WV.

Kathi was a retired Social Worker with the State of West Virginia and the State of Ohio and was a longtime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Parkersburg, WV, where she was a member of the Encouragers class and also sang in the Choir.

Kathi was creative and was very talented with painting, drawing and decorating. At Emmanuel Baptist Church, she painted a 4-wall mural of Bible stories in a large children’s classroom. She and her husband, John, had worked together building, decorating and creating their beautiful home. Above all she loved and adored her family especially her children and grandchildren and was a wonderful “Sports Mom” who could always be depended upon to be at every sporting event to support them.

Kathi, is sunshine in human form. She had the biggest heart and would do anything for anyone in need. She loved to make, and send, handcrafted cards to show she cares and would always add her own personal touches of creativity and thoughtfulness to every card. She loved deep conversations, but could also make you laugh through any situation.

Kathi has always had a passion for adventure. Kathi and John met on horseback in the Barlow parade in 1990. Each year thereafter, Kathi and John would spend time with friends and family at the parade to celebrate their anniversary. She enjoyed whitewater rafting and snow skiing while the beach always held a special place in her heart.

Kathi would do anything for anyone. At her request, she was an organ donor so she could continue to be a blessing to those in need, even when she was no longer with us. The family is comforted to know that Kathi was able to save at least 3 lives through organ donation and helping countless others through donations to research. Her legacy will continue to live on.

In addition to her Mother she is survived by her husband of 35 years, John T. Alfred Jr. of Veto, OH; Her children, Kelsey Joann Cline (Justin) of Veto, OH. and Cody Lee Alfred (Stacy) of Dallas, TX. Her grandchildren, Baylee Ann Cline, Bryant Paul Cline, Lee Thomas Alfred, Kendrix Jay Cline and Elias “Eli” John Alfred. One brother, Richard Lee Ashwell (Debbie) of Williamstown, WV; Her Uncle, Harry Faith (Lesli) of Frederick, MD, and her sister in law, Robin Hoschar (Ernie) of Veto, OH.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11:00am at the Emmanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Kurt Busiek officiating. Burial will be in the Veto Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 6:00-8:00pm at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg, WV, and Tuesday from 10:00am until service time at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to The Arthur N. Gustke Child Shelter, 1640 St. Marys Avenue, P. O. Box 763, Parkersburg, WV 26102
