Nancy Alicia Joy Emmert
Nancy Alicia Joy Emmert passed away peacefully in Midland, Michigan, on November 22, 2025, at the age of 88. She was born in Owensboro, Kentucky, on January 11, 1937.
She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology from the University of Cincinnati and worked at Procter & Gamble (Ivorydale) before moving to Midland, Michigan, with her husband in 1965.
Nancy was a descendant of her maternal grandparents, Edward and Mabel (Fitzgerald) McCormick of Marietta, Ohio, and her paternal great-grandparents, Bernard and Anna (Schulz) Florer, as well as her paternal grandparents, Samual F. and Gertrude (Florer) Joy of New Matamoras, Washington County, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard D. and Jeannette Joy; her sister, Barbara Anne Bruner; her niece, Barbara Joy Bruner; and her infant son, Robert W. Jr.
Nancy is survived by her sons, Robert D. (Nina) and David W. (Elizabeth), and her daughter, Nancy Elizabeth (Tim). She is also survived by three granddaughters–Tiana (Tanner), Katie, and Megan–along with her great-granddaughter, Lillian. Additionally, she is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert W., and her cousin, Kenneth Sisson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Nancy was a devoted mother who also dedicated time to her sororal organization, AAUW, helping raise scholarship funds for young women. She was active with the Friends of the Grace A. Dow Library and contributed to their triannual book sales. She enjoyed cooking in the tradition of Julia Child and James Beard and loved exploring restaurants throughout eastern and central Michigan.
A private cremation has taken place. A Christian interment service will be held in southern Ohio in the spring.
