Judy Ann Lawhon

Judy Ann Lawhon, 84, of St. Marys, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at WVU Camden Clark Hospital on Monday, December 29, 2025, following a short illness, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born on December 5, 1941, in Massena, New York, to Preston Pickering and Madeline Davall. Judy attended Kentucky Christian College, where she met and married her beloved husband, Charles. They shared 42 loving years together. As a preacher’s wife, Judy devoted her life to faithful service to Christ, serving Him while a member of Jeffersonville Church of Christ, Buck Run Church of Christ, Paden Fork Chapel Christian Church, and George Street Church of Christ.

In addition to being a devoted minister’s wife, Judy stayed at home with her children before starting her professional career at St. Marys Oracle followed by serving as Director of the Pleasants County Library for 18 years. During her tenure, she oversaw significant growth and modernization, including providing access to computers and the internet for the community.

Judy had a deep love for animals and was active in supporting county humane shelters. Gardening was one of her passions, and she would often be found tending to her flowers and landscaping.

Judy was known for her kindness, independence, strength, devotion, and love. Her faith and family were of utmost importance to her and were evident through her many actions. She treasured her friendships and was proud to be a part of the St. Marys community.

She is survived by her daughter, Laura Ann Matthews (Tracy); her son, Charles Martin “Marty” Lawhon (Melissa); grandsons Tyler James Cox (Randi), Brandon Michael Lawhon, and Preston Charles Lawhon; great-grandchildren Charli, Archi, and Daphni; sisters Jane Stebela (Mike) and Darlene Brown (Marvin); and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Michael Lawhon; grandson, Joshua Martin Lawhon; her parents, Preston and Madeline; stepfather, Len Steele; and stepbrother, Lenny Steele.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Ingram Funeral Home in St. Marys, West Virginia. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a memorial service immediately following.
