Ellen Griggs

Ellen Mae Griggs, 96, formerly of Elizabeth, WV, went home to the Lord January 5, 2026, at Eagle Pointe Nursing Home, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was born May 29, 1929, in Mineral Wells, WV, a daughter of the late Harold Holton Dye and Genevieve Ruth (Fox) Dye.

Ellen was a Sunday school teacher and life member of Mt. Zion Church in Mineral Wells, WV.

She was a sales clerk at Kmart for 25 years

Ellen loved to make quilts and afghans for her family. She bowled at Ren Dor two times a week until she was 90 years old. Ellen was a member of DAV Aux. for over 50 years, serving as local state and national officer. She loved to travel and went to National Bowling for over 20 years.

Ellen is survived by her three Children, Jenniffer Jones (John) of Mineral Wells, WV, Jeffrey Wilhelm (Becky) of Grove City, OH, and Jon Wilhelm (Amy) of Plain City, OH, six grandchildren, Mark Jones (Shavonna), Tammy Sampson (Mark), Megan Hill (Michael), Eric Wilhelm (Macie), Hannah Ritchie (Brandon), and Stephanie Kane (David), nine great-grandchildren, Cari, Katelyn, Matthew, Kasie, Michelle, Hudson, Piper, Josie, and Logan, three great great-grandchildren, Hayden, Reese, and Wrenley, brother, Henry Dye (Mary Lou) of Wheelersburg, OH, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Charles E. Wilhelm, 2nd husband, Jerry Griggs, six siblings, Joe Dye, Donald Dye, Holton Dye, Ann Graybelle, Doris Ott, and Grace Jones.

Service will be Monday 2:00 PM at the Leavitt Funeral home Parkersburg with Reverend Mary Beth McCloy officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to services at the funeral home.
