Ronald George Merritt

Ronald George Merritt, 85, of Washington, WV, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2025 in Parkersburg, a son of the late Clemmie Gail Merritt and Lavina Jessie Baker Merritt.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lillie A. “Sally” Merritt, whom he married on August 3, 1962.

He is also survived by his son, Gregory Merritt of Parkersburg; many nieces and nephews, two special “daughters” Erin and Kim; numerous friends, and his two dogs, SamBoe and Ben.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his siblings, Ruby Boring, Peg Caton, Irene Merritt, Ralph Merritt, Robert Merritt, Elden Merritt and Raymond Merritt.

Ronald was a graduate of Doddridge High School, Class of 1958, where he excelled as a student-athlete, lettering in football, basketball, and baseball. He also attended Salem College as well as in Marietta. He later served proudly in the National Guard, a reflection of his sense of duty and commitment to others. Ronald was employed with G.E. Plastics for many years, working in the Converting Lab and in Quality Control. He took great pride in his work and was respected for his dedication, reliability, and attention to detail.

Those who knew Ronald remember him as serious yet pleasant, with a deep appreciation for nature and a love of laughter. He was an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed deer hunting. He also had a lifelong love for fast-pitch softball, where his competitive spirit and skill led him to win two state tournaments Above all, Ronald was a devoted and loving husband. Being the best husband to his wife, Sally, was his greatest pride and joy, and their life together was built on love, respect, and shared devotion.

Ronald’s life was defined by loyalty, quiet strength, and wholehearted commitment to his family, his work, and the things he loved. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, love, and lasting memories that will be cherished by all who knew him.

The family would like to thank the special people at Amedisys Hospice, Tammy, Carrie, Michelle and Danielle for the kind and compassionate care of Ronald.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Actors Guild of Parkersburg, Grace Gospel Church in Parkersburg or First Congregational Church in Marietta.

Family and friends will be received at Davis Funeral Home- Salem on Monday, December 29, 2025 from 11:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 pm.
