Marion “Lou” Grogg
Marion “Lou” Grogg
Marion “Lou” Grogg, 71, of Lubeck, WV, passed away at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV, on Monday, December 1, 2025. He was born on January 4, 1954, the son of the late Marshall Edward and Loriane Ethel (Carter) Grogg.
After graduation from PHS, he joined the Army and served for six years and then worked for The Bureau of Public Dept for 32 years with a combined total of 38 years of Federal Service when he retired. He played for the Wood County Raiders, a semi-pro football team and played softball with local teams, but his passion was an EMT with Wood County Rescue Squad and then with the Lubeck Volunteer Fire Department after moving to Lubeck as an EMT and Firefighter. He also loved to hunt and fish, he always looked forward to hunting, especially rabbit and deer seasons. He taught Auto Extrication for RESA5 for many years throughout West Virginia and was known as a pro, in fact, he created a technique for getting patients out of an automobile safely. He always had beagles that he hunted with and spoiled as house pets. He loved playing jokes on everyone and could tell jokes for hours, he had a big heart and would do anything for anybody that asked.
He loved Harley Davidson motorcycles and had purchased one five years before an accident in which he was struck by a car. The injuries were so severe that doctors said he wouldn’t survive, but he proved them wrong and spent the next 20 years in a wheelchair. He would always remind everyone: “When you’re driving, please watch out for motorcycles.”
Lou is survived by his wife, Karen (Caplinger) Grogg of 42 years. They met at work, and she spent the last 20 years taking care of him after the accident which left him with many health issues. He is also survived by his daughter, Rachael Grogg; grandson, Jaden; sisters, Tina, Kim; brother, Mike Grogg of Millstone, WV; many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Toby.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kathy Giffin; brother, Wayne Grogg; and his mother and father-in-law, Paul and Geneva Caplinger, who he loved dearly.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ruby Memorial Hospital for the excellent care Lou received and special thanks to the Amedisys nurses who gave him excellent care every week.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Parkersburg Humane Society or the Lubeck Volunteer Fire Department.
