James "Jim" Fredrick Linger
James “Jim” Fredrick Linger, 86, of Parkersburg, WV, died Thursday, December 4, 2025, peacefully at home. He was born December 6, 1938, in Parkersburg, WV, a son of the late Hayward and Naomi E. (Perrin) Linger.
He retired from WVU-Parkersburg as a professor of Industrial Technology after thirty years. He was a longtime member of Grace Baptist Church of Parkersburg. He was an active member of the local Marine Corp League, and a longtime leader and volunteer of local Boy Scouts and Camp Kootaga. He was also a lifelong Big Red football fan.
He is survived by his children Kelly S. Poe, J. Scott Linger (Brenda), and M. Casey Linger (Michelle) all of Parkersburg; grandchildren Jamie M. Poe, Tyler Barnes (Emily), Halle Maston (Corey), and Ivy Peeples (Clayton); three great grandchildren; three sisters Donna Schott (Dave) of Manchester, MD, Anita Stephens of Chattanooga, TN, and Carol Copeland (Tom) of Ringgold, GA; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his stepmother Etheail Linger and wife of sixty-two years Judith M. Linger in March of this year.
Services will be Monday 2:00 PM at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Pastor Todd Hill officiating. Burial will be at Parkersburg Memorial Gardens with military honors. Visitation will be Monday 12-2 PM.
