Betty Lou (Yeager) Cummons passed away at the age of 87 on December 19, 2025, surrounded by family at her home in Georgetown, Georgia. She was born February 27, 1938, in Elizabeth, West Virginia, to her mother, the late Josie Dakin. She was married to Joseph Cummons for 60+ years. Together they had 4 children: 3 sons and 1 daughter. Betty is survived by 2 of her sons, Gregory, and Jeffrey (Janice) Cummons, both of Parkersburg, and her daughter, Mindy (Neal) Ward of Georgetown, Georgia; 8 grandchildren, Jessica (Darren) Hollingsworth of Alexandria, Indiana, Karmyn (Matt) Reese of Parkersburg, Jared (Stephanie) Cummons of Farmington, Brandon (Amanda) Cummons of Versailles, Kentucky, Cayli (John) Campbell of Parkersburg, Staci (Greg) Kupfner of Vienna, Jamison Moss of Anchorage, Alaska, and Taylor Moss of Georgetown, Georgia; 11 great grandchildren, Lexie, Allie, Hunter, Parker, Kyan, Kasey, Addison, Liam, Dane, Maddox, and Braxton; and 4 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her mother, she is preceded in death by her husband, Joe, her son Daniel, her grandparents Homer and Missouri Yeager (who raised her for the first 12 years of her life), and 3 step-fathers, Ernie, Clyde, and John.
Betty was a 1957 graduate of Parkersburg High School. She was a member of Wayside United Methodist Church, where she was on the Altar Guild, a member of the Agape Circle, served as a Sunday School teacher, worked at Bible School, and was a nursery worker. In recent years, she attended Southpoint Church of Eufaula, Alabama. Betty took care of 50+ pre-school age children in her home over the span of 28 years. For several years after retiring, she and her husband were “snowbirds” and spent their winters in Panama City Beach, Florida. Betty was an avid dog lover, and dearly loved all of her dogs: 2 poodles, Gigi and Fluffy, a ShihTzu Tinkerbell, and a papillon/yorkie named Cheyenne. Her hobbies included reading, sewing, traveling, and spending time with family.
Services will be handled by Leavitt Funeral Home, and arrangements are as follows: Visitation, December 29, 2025 from 12:00 noon – 2:00 pm at Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg; service to begin at 2:00 pm at Leavitt’s, and burial immediately following at Parkersburg Memorial Gardens.
