Loyd T. Wright
Loyd T. Wright (“Sonny”), of Fleming, OH (but always from Calhoun County) passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at Elison Assisted Living Community. Born June 06, 1937 in Big Bend, WV to the late Loyd John Wright and Letha May (Kimble) Wright.
He graduated from Calhoun County High School in 1955 and remained very active with the alumni association while diligently staying in touch with fellow classmates and also assisting with the football program.
After serving in the United States Army, Loyd went to work at DuPont Washington Works in 1959 and worked until his retirement in 1995. He then volunteered for a time with The American Red Cross, assisting with relief efforts for victims of natural disasters.
Loyd was always active in life. He was a member of the South Parkersburg chapter of the Jaycees and their West Virginia state delegation in the 1970s. He also was a Scoutmaster for Warren Township Boy Scout Troop 216, and a member of Lions Club later in life, among many other pursuits, most notably an avid American Civil War book collector and reader of history.
Later in life, he and his late wife Edna spent a lot of time traveling with friends and family. Most of all they enjoyed life on their farm, tending to their gardens and orchards – in which they took quite a bit of justified pride, and spending time with their grandchildren.
He was a great man who never met a stranger, and would never hesitate to strike up a conversation with anyone who he happened to encounter. It was marveled by all that literally wherever Loyd went, he would always run into somebody who was originally from Calhoun County.
He is survived by his son Roger Wright; daughter-in-law Robin Wright; grandchildren Marlon Wright, Alexandra Wright, Coleman Wright, and Alaena Wright; three great grandchildren; two brothers John and David Wright, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Edna Marie (Wildman) Wright; son Phillip Wright; and three sisters Elva Vaughan, Leota Yoak, and Norita Ballato.
A celebration of life gathering will be held Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at the Leavitt Reception Center, 620 Avery Street, Parkersburg WV. We ask that in lieu of gestures of sympathy that you consider making a modest donation to your local animal shelter, any charity related to the service of armed service veterans, or to the charity of your choice.
