Dr. Maureen C. Modesitt

2 Corinthians 4:14-18 We know that God, who raised the Lord Jesus, will also raise us with Jesus and present us to himself together with you…That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!

2 Timothy 4:8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

On November 7, 2025, the world lost a great lady when Dr. Maureen (Dr. Mo) Modesitt entered the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Born December 4,1945, she was a lifelong learner, but her greatest pursuit was to know and follow God and make Him known.

She received her doctorate degree at the age of 42 from Ohio University, where she was valedictorian, graduating summa cum laude, as well as an associate degree in Biblical studies from Vision International University at 57. Highly intelligent, she poured her knowledge and joy of learning into students of many ages, from college aged at West Virginia University – Parkersburg, Marietta College and Ohio Valley University to the elementary children she volunteered to teach at Parkersburg Wesleyan Academy in her later years. She authored the book Come My Beloved. Her interests were many and varied. An avid reader, she also loved travel, scrapbooking, collecting miniature villages and especially, the theater. She worked on productions at the Becky Thatcher in Marietta, Parkersburg Actors Guild and at the colleges where she worked, performing, writing and directing, designing and making costumes. She was inspired to write and perform many dramas for church, her most recent performance being just a few weeks prior to her death at The Word Church, where she attended. She loved sharing Jesus at the Hope Center, Belpre, and was a very special part of their recovery.

She is survived by the prince in her story, her husband Curtis Modesitt, Sr., sons Patrick Modesitt (Cee), Curtis Modesitt, Jr. (Tammie) and daughter Colleen Interrente (Richard), five grandchildren and a brother, Patrick. Preceding her in death were her granddaughters, Megan and Hailey, and a brother, Richard.

A vibrant force, she had the gift of making friends of all ages wherever she went who will treasure her memory.

She will be honored with a memorial service at Leavitt Funeral Home on Saturday, November 22 at 11 AM, Pastor Lance Hitt officiating. Visitation one hour prior to the service.

2 Timothy 4:7 ‘I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.’
