David “Bunky” Clark Hyre

David “Bunky” Clark Hyre, 70, of Washington, WV, went home to be with his Savior on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at home.

Born in Parkersburg, WV, the son of the late Richard and Betty Ward Hyre. He was a man of many talents and passions — a skilled hunter, fisherman, and competitive shooter. In his younger years, he was a boxer, wrestler, and wrestling referee. He enjoyed a good game of poker with his friends and never missed an opportunity to fish, watch baseball or share laughter and stories.

Dave’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He loved teaching his children and grandchildren how to box, wrestle, hunt, fish, shoot, work on cars, and tackle projects around the house. He was a constant presence at every sporting event, 4-H show, and piano recitals. His love, guidance, and support will be deeply missed and remembered always.

He is survived by his wife, Tonya Hyre; step daughter Kelsi Mercer and grandchild Mason Ewing; his first wife Vickie Hyre, daughter Jody Johnson (Tony Burdette); son Aaron Hyre; grandchildren Darin Johnson (Harlie), Ryan Johnson (Meredith Muller), and Braxton Parsons and great- grandchildren Braydon Webb and Sunny Johnson; his sisters Becky Lowe (Mark) and Estelle Fulmer (Pat); brother Donald Hyre (Rosemary); numerous nieces and nephews, the Jones family and his best friend Tom Welker.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank and Mike Hyre and infant granddaughter, Megan Hyre.

His family would like to express sincere gratitude to all the care he received at Strecker Center with special thanks to Dr. Cawley and to HouseCalls Hospice team for helping him walk his final journey from this earth with peace and comfort.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of choice.

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday at 6:00 PM at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Daniel Golden officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service.
