Edward “Ray” Baker, 91, went home to be with the Lord on October 6th, 2025 at the WVU Camden Clark Medical Center, with family by his side. He was born February 19, 1934 in Cantwell, WV to the late James Archie and Lena Alice (Layfield) Baker.
Ray was survived by his loving wife Patricia Rose Fox Baker for 65 years; son Larry Ray (Vickie Fulks) Baker; daughter Cynthia Rose Baker; grandson William Joseph Baker; sister-in-law’s Jean and Loretta Baker; brother in law Robert Burwell; several nephews and nieces.
Ray was a member of South Parkersburg Baptist Church, Koinonia Sunday school, and Thursday Bible study class. He loved going to church and Bible study.
Ray was a graduate of Harrisville High School Class of ’53 and Glenville State College ’59. He was a U.S. Army Korean Veteran. Ray worked as a teacher for Harrisville High School and several Wood County Schools. Later, he instructed mechanical training for over 20 years at E.I. DuPont Washington Works. He returned to the classroom after retirement as a substitute teacher because of his love of teaching.
Ray was preceded in death by his four brothers James O. Baker, Boyd R. Baker, Carrell L. Baker, Oren W. Baker and one sister Lorna K. Burwell.
Funeral services and burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Friday, October 10th from 11-1 followed by a funeral with military honors at 1pm. Pastors Rich Blain and Adam Paff officiating.
The family would like to thank our church family, caregivers, and WVU Camden Clark doctors and nurses for the wonderful, loving care of Ray.
