Channing L. Smith
Channing L. Smith, 46, of Parkersburg, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025, after an extended illness at Camden Clark Medical Center with his family by his side.
He was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, a son of Robert “Bob” Layne Smith and the late Teresa Jean Young James.
His memory will be carried in the hearts of those who loved him dearly, including his father, Bob Smith and bonus mom, Brenda Hurst; daughter, Kiliegh Batton; siblings, Kandi Dent (Mitch), David Hurst (Amber), Chauncy James (Cayla), Carissa Buskirk (Jason), and Chelsea Lafferty (Devin); aunt, Donna Young; uncle, Billy Young; a life-long friend, Isaac Cain; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and a host of other family members and friends.
In addition to his mother, Channing was preceded in death by his stepfather, Jesse James; paternal grandparents, Gene and Christeen Smith; maternal grandmother, Barbara Kirl and her husband, Paul; maternal grandfather, Bob Young and his wife, Maggie; uncles, Roger Smith and Bobby Young; and beloved niece, Kira James.
Channing loved people and would light up a room with his captivating personality, storytelling, and funny antics. He was a gypsy at heart and had a creative nature, enjoying drawing and music.
Services were held Saturday, Sept. 13, at Vaughan Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St., Parkersburg, with Pastor Pasi Sikio officiating. Visitation also was held Saturday.
