Carl Arthur Guthrie

Carl Arthur Guthrie

On August 23rd, Carl Arthur Guthrie of Belmont, WV passed away in his home at the age of 81 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He will be remembered and loved by his wife of over 34 years Ricki, his sister Mary Laird of Parkersburg, daughters Diane Hadley (Brian) of Belmont and Christine Davis (Greg) of St. Marys, WV, and sons Jason (Jodie) of Washington, WV and Brian (Amy) of Parkersburg, WV. Additionally, he will be remembered as âPapa Carlã by 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Carl was the son of Wanema Wilson and a 1962 graduate of Parkersburg High School where he achieved the level of Order of the Arrow in the Boy Scouts and was in the WV All State Choir. He served his country as a member of the US Army’s 82nd Airborne and in the National Guard. Many people know him from a long career at First National Bank in St. Marys, as well as IVS Hydro in Waverly and extensive time in the recreational boating community. His quick wit and bigger than life personality made him a person many people were happy to know. His love of dogs was well known as he owned many throughout his life. His dedication to the community extended to numerous boards and committees including Grace Episcopal Church, the Pleasants County Development Authority, Belmont City Council, Pleasants County Community Foundation, and donating dozens of gallons of blood to the Red Cross. He was recognized in 1997 by the WV Bankers Association for his volunteer work and also received a citation from the Pleasants County Commission in 2018 for his dedication to the community.

He was extremely proud of the adventure he and Ricki undertook from 2010 through 2012 when they completed the Great Loop boat trip that circled the eastern United States. It fulfilled his life-long dream and was something he would talk about endlessly while reminding his children of their spent inheritance.

A celebration and remembrance of Carl’s life will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday September 6, 2025 at Grace Episcopal Church, St. Marys, WV. Friends may call from 5 to 8 P.M.
