B. Kay Williams

B. Kay Williams passed away in the early hours on Wednesday, September 17th, 2025, at her West Virginia home.

Kay was born January 20, 1941, in Parkersburg, West Virginia to the late Bertha Elma and Thomas Wier McCutchen. Formative schooling was at Neal in Vienna and then later at Parkersburg High School. After schooling, she married Perry Martin Williams of Huntington, WV, established a home, and then began raising her family of three daughters, while simultaneously joining the city/county workforce.

Kay spent her nine decades rooted in Parkersburg, cultivating many rich friendships which lasted throughout her lifetime. While in Parkersburg or embedded in a visit with her children in foreign service, Kay shared her life’s joys in earnest camaraderie. For the remainder of her being, she shared a passion for Longaberger basketry with all who knew her.

Kay was retired from public service at the Wood County Courthouse. After leaving her workstation at the County Commissioner’s Office, she shared her knowledge in civic and government processes with others. Specifically, she consulted on the civic processes involving birth documentation and adoption. Her demonstrated civic pride bubbled over in her work with the elections polling, hospital information, and local floristry.

Whether it was as a mom, grandma, aunt, cousin, wife, sister, or beloved friend, Kay was larger than life. She evidenced a personality brimming with a charmed kindness which soothed, eased, and rendered comfort. This was best appreciated by the way Kay filled any room that she happened to grace. She will be cripplingly missed by the many who deeply loved and appreciated her. Like a pebble plopped into a quiet pond, she made a tangible impact which radiated outwardly.

Kay loved to emphasize family while attending reunion functions, playing cards, dice, or board games … and while elbow to elbow, voraciously cheering college football and her beloved West Virginia Mountaineers.

Kay is survived by her daughters, Victoria Williams, Jill Wroten (Jim), and Lori Hill (Benjamin); her grandchildren, James (Ryan), Samantha (CJ), Darrick (Sarah), Christopher (Angela), Katie (Andrew); thirteen great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren; her two sisters, Alberta and Jeanie, and their children, her four nieces and four nephews; and also many grandnieces and grandnephews.

Kay’s favorite term expressing her utmost content was, “all the chicks have returned to the nest.”

Funeral services will be conducted 4:00 p.m. Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Vaughan Kimes Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Shawver officiating. Her family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
