Wilda Irene Heft Bartenschlag, 95, of Lewisville, OH, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 25, 2025, in Pleasant City at her daughter’s home, surrounded by her loving family. Wilda was born November 23, 1929, near Lewisville, OH, the youngest of six children of the late John and Leona Hoffmeister Heft.
Wilda graduated from Lewisville High School in 1947 and faithfully attended her annual alumni banquets. Wilda married her sweetheart she met in the first grade, Billy, on June 3, 1950. During Bill’s service in the Air Force, they lived in Texas, Georgia, and Michigan. After leaving the military, they returned to Lewisville, where they raised their family. Wilda had a passion for quilting and crafting. She created many beautiful quilts, afghans, and braided hangers. She served on the Lewisville Village Council. She enjoyed music, especially her favorites, the Statler Brothers and Alan Jackson. She shared her lifelong love for cats with her entire family. She will be missed by everyone who relied on her amazing memory of Lewisville area history. She was a lifelong member of Trinity United Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill), who passed away on October 19, 1999, and her five siblings, Beulah, Mildred, Rolland, Urban, and Floyd.
Wilda is survived by her children John (Kim) Bartenschlag of Parkersburg, Crystal (Pat) Willis of Pleasant City, and Donnie (Aimee) Bartenschlag of Zanesville, her 6 grandchildren, Mary Sweeney, Mike (Stacey) Bartenschlag, Matt (Ashley) Bartenschlag, Christopher Willis, Amelia (Bryce) Hill, and April (Wes Hettinger) Bartenschlag, and her 5 great-granddaughters, Sadie, Lila, Alayna, Wilda Rose, and Selah. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and friends, whom she loved very much.
Friends will be received at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 S. Paul Street, Woodsfield, Ohio Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Friends will also be received at the Trinity United Church of Christ, 47345 Lewisville-Northern Road, Lewisville, Ohio, Friday, August 29, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 a.m. with Erin Curtis and Rev. Christy Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Friendship Cemetery, Lewisville, Ohio.
