Sonya Marie Logston Jackson

Sonya Marie Logston Jackson of Parkersburg, WV, passed Friday August 22, 2025, at her residence. Sonya was born July 19, 1938, in Parkersburg, WV, the daughter of Carlton Memel and Glenna Dale (White) Logston. She was the granddaughter of Charles and Ella Logston and Alonzo and Nellie White.

She was a graduate of Parkersburg High School class of 1956, attended Mountain State Business College and WVU-Parkersburg. She was employed at the Wood County Board of Education, Mountain State Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Bureau of Public Debt and eighteen years at Nashua/York Photo where she served as a supervisor in the Customer Service Department. She retired from the Wood County Assessor’s Office. Sonya was a long-time member of the Southside Southern Baptist Church where she had worked as the church secretary. She had served at the church over the years as a Choir member, Choir director, Assistant Choir Director, Minister of Music, Ladies’ Sunday School teacher, Building and Grounds Committee, Church Clerk, the Video/Visual Operator, Custodian, Soloist, helped with VBS and many other areas where needed.

Sonya enjoyed singing, traveling, and landscaping. One of her passions was singing Southern Gospel Music. She had sung with the Psalm III Trio and The Golden Tones Quartet. Sonya also sang in the area as a soloist at many churches, social events, nursing homes as well as her home church. She had been a Cub Scout Leader, Girl Scout Leader, Woman and Girls Softball Coach and loved to play softball herself.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Russell Lewis Jackson, Jr.; brothers David Carlton, Gary Lee, and Tommy Alonzo Logston; grandsons Matthew Carl Jackson, Gregory Lewis Jackson, Joshua Adam Polsley, Steven Lee Polsley; granddaughter Carrie Ann Polsley; and foster son John Raymond Tippens.

Sonya is survived by her children, Jeffrey Lee Jackson, Sr. of Parkersburg, Cheryl Lou Jackson Richards of Parkersburg, Bryan Lewis (Karen) Jackson of Parkersburg, and Eric David Jackson of the home; 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; two great-great granddaughters; sister-in-laws Rose Logston and Carolyn Golden; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be Wednesday 11:00 AM at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre, Ohio, with Pastor David Sommerville officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday 6-8 PM and Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
