Roy “Chip” E. Wetz

Roy “Chip” E. Wetz, 83, of Marietta, OH, passed away Thursday evening August 21, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born June 23, 1942, in Marietta to the late Roy Orland and Ernestine Pauline Dobbins Wetz. Chip graduated from Marietta High School in 1960 where he met the love of his life while she was sitting under a tree in art class drawing his picture. On June 23, 1962, he married Rilla Bonnette in Marietta. Chip started working for his dad R.O. at the age of 16 while still in school, through the years helped develop with his father R.O. Wetz Transportation, REJER Transport, Wetz Investments, Wetz WVa. Warehouse, Wetz Sales and Service Heavy Duty Trucks (Western Star) and Wetz Oil and Gas. His memberships include Past President of the Marietta Jaycees in 1969 where he received the Jaycee “Boss of the Year” in 1978 and was presented the key to the city from Mayor John Burnworth in 1970. Chip was involved with the Worlds Junior Chamber of Commerce International Senate in 1972, Ducks Unlimited member and Chairman of Washington County from 1980-1998, Camp Hervida Board from 1981-1987, receiving recognition from Hervida 4-H Camp for handling camp improvements, one being his proudest projects was to keep the camp open for children with handicap accessibility and being EPA compliant. Other memberships included, 50 year member of Harmar Lodge #390 F. & A.M., Knights Templer #50, Royal Arch Masons #1, Grand & Select Mason #78, 32 Degree Valley of Scottish Rite, Marietta Chapter #59 O.E.S., Marietta Shrine Club Past President in 1987, Aladdin Shriners 50 year member and Ambassador in 1987, Marietta Shrine Club Building Chairman, Marietta Shrine Club Holding Corp. Secretary/Treasurer 2003-2022, Hale Trust Chairman to organize for handicap accessibility for children of Washington County being a great endeavor, Nemesis Shrine, Kachina Club and the Royal Order of Jesters Court #156 Emeritus and Past Director in 2002. In addition to his wife he is survived by his son Todd Wetz, daughter Tonya Robey, grandchildren Tanner Benson (Lindsey), Riley Crabtree (Kory) and Sydney Benson, great grandchildren Keegan and Decker Crabtree, Easton Benson and Hadley Kerns, brother Ernest “Tag” Wetz (Dee) and sister Jeanne Wetz Elswick and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, August, 26th at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta with Bonnie Donnelly officiating.
