Monna “Jane” Nancarrow

Monna “Jane” Nancarrow

Our mother, Monna Jane Nancarrow, 98, of Vienna, West Virginia, passed away August 11, 2025, peacefully in her home from natural causes. Her caregivers were always near and did a wonderful job: Donna, Tori, T’onna, and Cindy.

Mom was born November 10, 1926, to Frank E. Barth and Blanche B. (Powell) Barth in New Martinsville , WV. Growing up with two sisters and two brothers on an Ohio River farm, Mom learned the value of hard work. She carried that through her lifetime of gardening, caring for her home, her children and her animals. Through the years she had many canine companions, some were rescues and all were very dear to her heart.

Several years after graduating from Magnolia High School in New Martinsville, she met Charles ” Chuck ” Nancarrow, a pharmacist at Harmon ‘s Drugstore. They married June 14, 1950, and moved to Parkersburg, WV, and later to Vienna, WV, where they raised their four children: Ashley, Vickie, Chaz and Jana.

When her children attended college Mom set her sights on learning to paint with oils, a hobby she enjoyed throughout her lifetime. Her artistic eye led to a major revamp of the family back yard. She created a flower and rock garden where she could enjoy years of ever-changing seasons; it was her sanctuary.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles F. Nancarrow, her daughter Jana Sue Wiseman (John), her brothers Raymond Barth (Martha), Dale Barth (Betty) and sister Norma Jean Barth.

She is survived by her sister Patricia A. Hanna (Don) of New Martinsville, WV, her children: Ashley Nancarrow (Judy), Parkersburg, WV, Vickie Verano (Nick), Winston-Salem, NC and Chaz Nancarrow, Parkersburg, WV. Four grandchildren: Nick Verano IV ( Katherine ) Michael Verano (Nelia), Lisa Nancarrow (Rich), Justin Nancarrow. Six great- grandchildren: Luca , Leo and Rosy Verano , Nicholas J. Verano , Paige Nancarrow ( Zavian) Connor Nancarrow, and two great-great grandchildren: Silas & Sayla.
