Lydia Ann Sweeney

Lydia Ann Sweeney, 72, of Vienna, WV, passed away on Aug. 10, 2025, in her home after a 10-month battle with cancer. She was born on Oct. 14, 1952, in Parkersburg, West Virginia. She was a graduate of Parkersburg High School in 1971, then continued her education at Fairmont State University where she earned her Bachelor's Degree. She remained in Fairmont for several years, and returned to Vienna where she worked for Pickering & Associates and then Walmart in Vienna. She was an employee there for 18 years before she retired.

Lydia was preceded in death by her father and mother, Bayard and Anna Sweeney. She is survived by her three sisters: Brenda C. Rote (John)/ Fairmont, WV, Patricia S. Stansberry (Don)/Vienna, WV, and Catherine S. Lezek. Other survivors include her nieces and nephews: John Joseph Bayard Rote/ New York City, Joel Patrick Massullo (Elizabeth Mazezka)/Morgantown, Shaylynn Finlayson (Patrick)/Charlotte, NC, Sydney Stansberry (Walker Carroll)/Morgantown. Great niece: Theadora Jane Massullo and great nephew: Micah Gray Massullo.

Lydia was a member of the 36th Street Church of Christ and enjoyed participating in church functions. She loved watching football, especially, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the WV Mountaineers. She treasured time at the Vienna Senior Center playing games and doing crafts with her friends. Earlier in life, Lydia even passed a little time playing a game of pool. She was an avid pet lover. Her cat CeCe and her shih tzu, Addison, were her faithful companions and kept her happily occupied and entertained.

Lydia's viewing will be on Saturday, Aug. 16th, at 36th Street Church of Christ in Vienna from 10 a.m. to noon. Funeral service will start at noon. Graveside burial will be after service at Mt.
