Gene A. Smith

Gene A. Smith, 86, of Parkersburg, WV, died Sunday July 6, 2025, at his residence. He was born in Bradford, PA, a son of the late Burton C. and Elda Mae (Renninger) Smith.

He worked at Zoetis as a lab technician. He devoted forty-six years of honorable service to the United States Army-first as a proud member of the National Guard and later as an active-duty soldier. He was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir, participated with the Handbell Choir and The Exceptional Choir, was a member of Builder's Sunday School Class, and served on the Finance and Worship Committees.

He is survived by his daughter Michelle "Missy" Wright (Jerry) of Aberdeen, MD; daughter-in-law Winnie Smith of Lost Creek, WV; grandchildren Sean Wright (Danielle), Katie Jenkins (Matt), Eliza Allam (Kyle), Louisa Smith, and Owen Smith (RaeAnne); great grandchildren Landen and Camren Wright, and a sister, Kay Carone of Erie, PA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Carol (Clouse) Smith; son Mark E. Smith; three brothers Jack, Robert, and Gerald Smith; and two sisters Joyce Caywood and Janice Paul.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday August 30, 2025, at Christ United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends Saturday 12-2 PM at the church. Internment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
