Carl Frederick Barker

Carl Frederick Barker
Carl Frederick Barker, Fred to his family and friends, passed away at his home on Monday, June 16th, into the arms of the Lord and his late wife Genevieve Barker. He lived an incredible and special life of 96 years. Fred was born in Smithville, West Virginia, the youngest son of Carl and Opal Barker. As a young man he came to New York City for work and became a butler on a grand estate at Peacock Point, a Gilded Age mansion on the Gold Coast of Long Island. There he met and married Mary Theresa Kelliher and had their son Frederick Timothy Barker. Following the closure of Peacock Point in the early 1960’s Fred became a butler for Mrs. Alisa Mellon Bruce on her estate in Syosset. Here the family spent several happy years living in a cottage on the estate.
Eventually times changed and the grand old estates began to disappear, and life took Fred on a different path. He moved to Maryland and became a nurse at the state hospital in Sykesville. Fred spent many fulfilling years working with troubled adolescents. Following his retirement, Fred returned to Parkersburg to be near his two sisters, Mary and Fannie Lou and their families. It was here that Fred met and married Genevieve Barker. Together the couple spent many happy years.
Fred goes to meet his parents Carl and Opal, siblings Opal, Jim, Abe, Mary, and Fannie Lou, and his wife Genevieve. He leaves behind here on Earth his son Tim and his wife Nancy, his grandson Brendan and wife Madison, his granddaughter Emiko and husband Anthony, and his great grandsons Maclin and James. In Parkersburg, Fred will be sincerely missed by his beloved nephew Brad and wife Cheryl, his niece JudyAnn and husband Carland, their families, and his niece Alice in Texas.
Fred will be always loved, and at rest with his loved ones in spirit forevermore.
