Maurice Lee Seagraves, 92 years old, recently of Columbus, Ohio, passed away July 19, 2025, in Williamstown at the home of her daughter, Sarah. She was born in Kenova, WV, on December 26, 1932, to George and Gertrude (Tackett) Seagraves. She was a beloved school teacher for many years in both West Virginia and Ohio. Demonstrating her resilience, she returned to Marshall University in her 50's to earn her masters degree in school counseling. After moving to Columbus she worked in the Office of Veterans Affairs for many years.
Maurice was known for writing children's books which she illustrated and printed by hand. She was also known for the many quilts she made for all the family, which were all quilted by hand. But most of all she was known for her kindness and selflessness. "If she doesn't go to Heaven then the rest of us are in trouble."
She is survived by her husband, Earl Seagraves, of Columbus, Ohio. She was the mother of Ann Simonton (Steve) of Parkersburg, Kevin Miller of Williamstown, Jason Miller (Joy) of Missouri, and Sarah Harper of Williamstown. A service will be held at a later date in Ashland, Kentucky.
