Mary Ruth (Watson) Spencer, 56, of Middletown, DE, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE, due to complications from Lupus.
She was born on May 9, 1968, in Lewiston, New York, the daughter of Wanda (Rice) Watson of Middletown, Delaware, and the late Paul H. Watson.
She is survived by her devoted mother, Wanda Watson of Middletown, DE; her husband, Scott Spencer of Elkton, MD; three sons, Sean (Brandi) Spencer of Newark, DE; Evan Spencer and Kyle Spencer of Elkton, MD, and one daughter, Emily (Quinn) Folks of Philadelphia, PA. She also leaves behind three brothers: Steven (Dana) Watson of Lewis, DE; Matthew (Lana) Watson, of Middletown, DE; and Joseph (Sandra) Watson of West Chester, PA, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Watson; her grandparents, Joseph R. and Ruth (Bumgardner) Watson; Alva C. and Mary (Mitchell) Rice; and several aunts and uncles.
Mary Ruth spent her early years in Parkersburg, West Virginia, before moving to Wilmington, Delaware. After her marriage, she settled in Elkton, MD, with her family. She graduated from Alexis I. DuPont High School in Wilmington, DE, and earned a BS in Nursing from Chamberlain University. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Nemours/ A.I. DuPont Children's Hospital for 22 years.
The greatest joy of her life was her love for her four children!
The family will hold a Celebration of Life on July 26th at Leavitt Family Center in Parkersburg. Her ashes are being placed with her father at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Parkersburg.
