Harold Eugene “Tobe” Offenberger

Harold Eugene “Tobe” Offenberger, 89, of Williamstown, West Virginia, went to be face to face with his Lord Jesus on July 2, 2025.

Tobe was born on March 31, 1936, in Marietta, Ohio, and graduated from Marietta High School in 1954. A gifted athlete and beloved member of the community, he was the first All-State and All-American football player in Marietta High School history in 1953, later honored with induction into both the Marietta High School Athletic Hall of Fame (2016) and the Mid-Ohio Valley Sports Hall of Fame (2015).

He retired from BF Goodrich after 38 years of dedicated service and spent over three decades officiating high school basketball and football–just one expression of his lifelong love of sports. At the age of 12, Tobe began his love of golf as a caddy at the Marietta Country Club where he was a member and past club champion for many years.

Tobe was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Williamstown for more than 50 years. His steady faith, kind heart, and commitment to others were evident in every area of his life.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Margie Butcher Offenberger, and by his children: David Offenberger, Larry Offenberger, Laura Perry (Audy), and Jay Offenberger (Adria). He was a proud grandfather to Jessica Khayate (Reda), Josh Offenberger, Zach Offenberger, Zane Offenberger (Lindsay), Luke Offenberger, Rebekah Franks (Bradley), and Beth May (Jared), and a great-grandfather to nine great-grandchildren (Rylan, Millie, Sophie, Miles, Teddy, Tristan, Oliver, Perry and Henry).

Tobe is also survived by his brothers: George Offenberger (Jean), Phil Offenberger (Phyllis), and Edward “Tip” Offenberger (Jeannie).

He was preceded in death by his mother, Edith Mae Hupp Hill, his sister, Jo Etta Hill Drake, and his daughter-in-law, Patty Knight Offenberger.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Williamstown, with a celebration of life service to follow at 3:00 p.m. Pastor Tony Foreman will officiate.

In a final act of generosity and service, Tobe donated his body to the Marshall University School of Medicine to aid in the education of future physicians.

We would like to offer a special thanks and encourage your donations to the O’Neill Center Day Program, for providing care, love, and a sense of excitement and anticipation to Tobe’s final months.

O’Neill Senior Center, Adult Day Center, 333 Fourth Street, Marietta, Ohio 45750 or 740-373-3914
