Gary Wayne Thompson, age 81, of South Parkersburg, WV, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Eagle Pointe Healthcare Center in Parkersburg WV. Gary was born June 13, 1944, to the late Dorothea Williamson, and Okey Wilbur, also Walter Williamson, stepfather.
Gary Thompson graduated from Carthage Troy School in Coolville OH. After high school he was an active member of the Hopewell Church of Christ in South Parkersburg for many years. Gary worked for Chapman Printing of Parkersburg as an installation tech and retired after 30 years of service. He had a gift of looking at a piece and knowing exactly how it went together, he loved working with his hands. Gary remodeled most of the home he and his wife Carol lived in. When he wasn't busy working, he enjoyed hiking in the Smokey mountains, hiking Mt. LaConte twice. He loved visiting the Amish community and reading about the history of West Virginia and the Smokeys.
Gary was born into a large family; he was one of eleven children. Gary was preceded in death by his mother and fathers, grandparents, and stepson Matthew Clevenger in 2010. He was also preceded in death by his siblings; Richard 'Dick', Okey Jr. 'Bubby', Ronnie, Margie, Sandy, George Stephen (Charlotte) of Charleston SC, David (Deanna) and Earlene Atkinson. Preceded also in death by his children's mothers, Linda Wildman and Ina Goudy.
Gary is survived by his wife of 37 years, Carol Thompson of South Parkersburg; siblings; Dorothy (Paul) Thompson of Coolville OH, Linda (Dale) Conant of Wallace WV, and John (Donna) Williamson of Kingston OH. By his children, Neil Thompson of Parkersburg WV, Beamond 'Bud' Thompson of Belpre OH and Holee Barber of McCook NE, Chad Cleavenger of Charlotte NC and his grandson, Hunter Thompson acted as a caretaker. Gary has six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Gary Thompson requested that there not be a funeral service. He is dearly loved by many and will be missed and remembered by all.
