Carmel Edward Garvin Sr.

Carmel Edward Garvin Sr.

Carmel Edward Garvin Sr., 88, of Parkersburg, WV, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 10, 2025, at his residence.

He was born on Dec. 24, 1936, in Webster County, WV to the late Henry Martin Garvin and Vada Clutter Garvin.

Carmel (better known as Eddie) retired from GE Plastics (formerly Marbon and Borg-Warner) in Washington, WV, where he was a dedicated and hardworking employee for many years. He loved spending time outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting and maintaining a “park-like” yard where his family spent many hours on the porch sharing their lives, observing nature and all the animals he kept well fed.

Honesty and integrity defined Eddie. He tried to treat everyone equally and fairly, serve God, help others and “pull his weight” in this world. His work ethic and commitment to being a giver, not a taker, was evident in every area of his life.

Eddie fiercely loved his family and spent his entire life providing for them, loving them, and protecting them. His fight for life and remarkable resilience was fueled by his love for his wife and determination to care for her as long as possible. His strength and will to live astounded the medical community that served him for whom the family is truly grateful for their expert care, kindness and love.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who loved his family and God deeply and lived life to the fullest.

Those left behind to cherish Eddie’s memory include his loving wife, Yvonne Mae Garvin (known as Bonnie), of Parkersburg, WV; his children Carmel Edward (Katsumo) Garvin Jr. of Vienna, WV, and Rick (Sarah) Garvin of Raleigh, NC; siblings, Beulah (Kenny) Heater of Buckhannon, WV, Cam (Betty) Garvin of Parkersburg, WV. He was a proud grandfather to Tiffani Garvin (Pedro Lopez) and Kaitlyn (Ian) Elmore, and a cherished great-grandfather to Brili McCoy (Seth), Belle Weaver (Jimmy Ault), and Benea Weaver (Sam Short) and Lexi Elmore. He also leaves behind great-great-grandchildren Duncan and Adaleigh.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Juanita Bee (Albert), Lonnie Garvin (JoAnn), Helen Wagner (Dan), and Mildred Garvin and a great-grandson Levi Elmore.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday July 16, 2025, at Cross Church 1122 Market St. Parkersburg, WV. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.
