Sidney J. Mitchell

Beloved husband, devoted father, cherished friend, and proud dog dad.

May 13, 1946-June 4, 2025

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Sidney “Sid” J. Mitchell, 79, of Fort Myers, Florida, on June 4, 2025.

Sid was born in Ashland, Ohio, on May 13, 1946, to Richard J. Mitchell and Jacqueline A. Mitchell (née Ball). His family later moved to Warren, Ohio. There, he graduated from Warren G. Harding High School, went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business from Ashland University, and proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserve.

He retired from General Electric/GE Plastics in Washington, West Virginia, after 25 years of service and continued his career with Yuasa Exide in Reading, Pennsylvania, as Vice President of Manufacturing. Later, Sid returned to Parkersburg, West Virginia, where he established and operated an executive recruiting office.

He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Eleanor “Ellie” Mitchell (née Jameson); his daughters, Sarah Garry (Mike) of Pinehurst, North Carolina, and Lisa Reinke (Mike) of Moyock, North Carolina; his son, Richard Mitchell of Kentucky; and his stepson, Brian Conrad of Columbus, Ohio. He was the proud grandfather of Caragh, Aly, and Ryan Garry; and Hailee, Ashley, Michael, and Caiden Reinke. He is also survived by his sister, Nedra Atkins-Stahl (Jeff) of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; his cousin, Wade Tolleson of South Euclid, Ohio; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, René and Dave Elliott of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; his niece, Michelle Frederick of Parkersburg, West Virginia; and his nephews, David Elliott of San Diego, California, Craig Elliott of Petroleum, West Virginia, and Mitch Atkins of Pataskala, Ohio. He will also be missed by his beloved dog and constant companion, Brewster.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Jacqueline Mitchell; his grandparents; his aunt and uncle, Ellen and Chuck Tolleson; and his brothers-in-law, Bill Atkins and Don Jameson. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Martin and Roberta Jameson.

Sid loved to cook and entertain friends and family. Impromptu dinners after golfing, matches that he helped organize and host, were often followed by cards, drinks, music, and hours of laughter. Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations were always memorable, thanks to his incredible sense of humor, generous spirit, and skill with a camera.

He was an avid fan of Ohio State football and a loyal supporter of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians. But his greatest passion was golf. He was a member of Olde Hickory Golf and Country Club in Fort Myers, Florida, and a longtime member of the Parkersburg Country Club in Parkersburg, West Virginia.

Sid’s love for his friends, family, children, and grandchildren was infinite, and we all loved him right back. He was always there when needed, with a warm smile, an encouraging word, and a listening ear. The memories we enjoyed together will live on in our hearts forever.

We will remember Sid as a deeply loving, loyal, considerate, and fun-loving man, as well as stylish, charming, and successful-a man of deep faith and a genuine zest for life’s best moments.

He will be so dearly missed by all who knew him.
