Sandra Worrell Armacost, age 79, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. Sandra was born in Beckley, West Virginia, on Sept. 18, 1945, to the late Thomas and Thelma Worrell. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gary, and sister, Kathi. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Joe Jacobs; son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Jennifer Armacost; 8 grandchildren (Heather, Gary, Harmony, Gideon, Levi, Juliana, Annette, and Luke) and 4 great grandchildren (Dallas, Chloe, Jack, and Molly); brothers Tommy (Sharon) Worrell and Jon (Cheryl) Worrell; beloved cousin Amy (Rick) LaMason and special niece Layla Smith.
Sandra was born and raised in southern West Virginia as "a coal miner's daughter." In 1967, she married the love of her life, Gary Armacost, in Westminster, Maryland. In 2017, they celebrated 50 joyous years together. Sandra graduated from Beckley College in 1965 with a teacher's degree and taught in Maryland for the Baltimore County schools as well as at the Freedom Christian School in Belpre, Ohio. She was a faithful wife and mother who worked alongside her husband in his Midas Service Centers in Parkersburg and Beckley, West Virginia, and in Marietta, Ohio. She enjoyed playing both the piano and flute and serving with her family as faithful members at several Baptist churches in Maryland and Ohio.
Her last few years were spent near her children in Indiana, where she also enjoyed the services and fellowship at the Jolly 60s group at Fairhaven Baptist Church. Sandra loved the Lord Jesus Christ, always living with her family and eternity in view. Her life verses were Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
Services will be Friday, July 18 at 10 a.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, West Virginia, with Pastor David Nutt officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday evening, July 17, from 5-8 p.m., and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton, West Virginia.
