It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sandra Jean Tornes, 85, of Waterford, who passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, at her residence.

She was born July 17, 1939, in Cairo, WV, a daughter of the late Howard Jefferson and Mary Virginia Wolfe Hoover.

Sandy was a majorette and band member while attending Cairo High School. She later graduated from Parkersburg High and was a member of the PHS Orchestra after her family moved to Parkersburg. She loved being outdoors on the farm with her family and friends. Sandy had a love for animals, especially cats. She enjoyed camping and fishing with her children. Sandy had a wonderful sense of humor and was an avid WVU fan.

Surviving is her husband Robert Albert Tornes Sr., her children: Gus Augustine (Robyn) of Little Hocking, Kathy Runion (Steve) of Parkersburg and Jeff Augustine (Kim) of Charlottesville, VA, and stepsons Robbie Tornes (Lisa) and Kevin Tornes (Terri) of Waterford.

Mrs. Tornes also leaves behind her grandchildren: Jessica Hinkle (Dwayne), Lisa Augustine, Nick Pickrell (Emily), Justin Augustine, Emily Augustine (fiance Jason St Clair), step-grandchildren: Matthew Smith (Kelsey), Levi Smith, Caleb Runion (Andrea), Brittnie Saliba (Alex), Corey Adams (Kelly), Breanna Tullius (Alex), Deanna Harlow (Mikey), Gary Tornes (Tiffany) and Hannah Tornes along with 27 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter Jillian Harlow.

Funeral services will be Thursday 11 a.m. at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with her cousin, Jay Wolfe officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday 4-7 p.m. and one hour prior to services.

The family would like to thank the staff of Amedisys Hospice of Parkersburg and Marietta for the care and support given to Mrs. Tornes during her final days.
