Richard Alan “Rick” Delancey

Richard Alan “Rick” Delancey
Richard Alan “Rick” Delancey, 71, of Waverly, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on June 10, 2025. Born on February 23, 1954, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, Rick spent his life rooted in the Mountain State he loved.
Rick began his construction career in 1988 – shortly after, he found his professional home at Family Carpet. There, he dedicated nearly three decades of hard work and loyalty until his retirement in 2016. Known for his skill and reliability, Rick was also a talented handyman who took on countless side jobs–roofing, remodeling, and everything in between. His hands were rarely idle, and his work ethic left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Outside of work, Rick found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a deep love for the outdoors and could often be found up in his building tinkering with cars while a western rerun played softly in the background. Whether it was the hum of an engine or the quiet rustle of leaves around him, Rick cherished those peaceful moments. His passion for cars and westerns was matched only by his sharp sense of humor–he had a knack for making people laugh and lifting spirits wherever he went.
Above all else, Rick was devoted to his family and loved being a grandpa. He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Delancey; his three children: Jason Delancey, Justin (Janell) Delancey, and Skylar Delancey; as well as three cherished grandchildren. He also leaves behind two siblings: Rod (Rose) Delancey and Diana (Jeff) Kelly. Rick’s legacy is one of unwavering dedication to those he loved.
He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Delancey, and his mother, Lydabelle Delancey.
Rick was very loved and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire strength and laughter in their lives. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 23, 2025, from 01:00 PM to 03:00 PM at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 2415 Bull Run Road, Waverly, WV 26184.
