Thomas Daniel McNally

Thomas Daniel McNally, beloved husband of Elizabeth and dear father of Guy Douglas and Stephen Daniel, completed his time on earth and traveled heavenward on April 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Tom was born on September 2, 1941, in the Bronx, New York, the eldest son of Francis and Frances O'Donnell McNally. He attended St. Joseph New Cathedral School in Buffalo for eight years, an experience that he credited with developing his inquisitive mind and a lifelong love for learning.

As a young teen-ager, Tom received a transistor radio, a gift that had a huge impact on his life. It introduced him to the sounds of popular music, the larger world through talk radio, and the growing field of technology, which eventually led him to a career in computer programming and systems development during his 36 year career at DuPont.

Tom was born with a competitive soul, a trait that stretched him physically and mentally throughout his life. He stopped physically challenging his sons when they grew taller and stronger than him.

In his early retirement years, one of Tom's greatest joys was the time he spent with his grandsons. He became a volunteer with 3rd and 4th grade students at Neale School, specializing in teaching fractions. With the proliferation of cell phones, Tom also set a goal to be the first grandfather who could text his grandsons in grade school. (He was proud – grandsons rolled their eyes.)

Although he was raised Catholic, Tom went through doubts of faith in his adult years. His intense searching led him back to a solid faith home at St. Margaret Mary Church, where he also met – and later married – his wife Beth.

Along with his dear wife, Tom leaves a loving family to mourn his passing: sons Guy Douglas (Kristina) and Stephen Daniel (Kristen); grandsons Ian (Jessica), Evan (Krysta), and Stephen (Hayleigh); granddaughter Brittany Cunningham; great grandsons Brylon, Kemper and Grayson; step-grands Skylar (Garrison) Willams, Steven (Becca) DeVaughn and baby Houston, and Keegan (Cara) Devaughn and baby Hayden; his special sister-in-law Phyllis Harman; in-laws Ron and Carolyn Brodzinski, Jim and Sue Brody, and Terrie McNally; niece Amy (Wayne) Darnold, who stayed near throughout the years of Tom's illness; and the Flinn family, John, Brian, and Amy.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother who helped raise him, Twila Mae O'Donnell; brothers Frank and Mike; sister and brother-in-law Kathleen and Charles Flinn; sister-in-law Chris Underwood; and his first wife and mother of his sons, Naomi Ankrom McNally.

The family is very grateful for the lifelong medical care Tom received from Dr. James Spychalski and his staff and the compassionate care at the end of his life from the ICU staff at WVU Medicine Camden Clark.

Visitation will be at Leavitt Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 30, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral at St. Margaret Mary Church, 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, with Fr. John Rice officiating. Interment in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Starting at /week.
