Joyce Ilene Stephens, 83 of Parkersburg, passed away April 11, 2025, at her residence. She was born Nov. 17, 1941, in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late Ernest B. and Louise Robinson Abbott.
Mrs. Stephens was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and a long-time member of New Hope Baptist Church. She enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the TNT Class at the YMCA. Joyce volunteered and served at Meals on Wheels and the Good Samaritan Center. She was always active in Church activities and functions and whatever her children, grand- and great-grandchildren were doing.
Surviving are four children: Joseph Stephens of Parkersburg, Jennifer Ortt (Jonathan) of Ripley, Julia Miller (Steve) of Washington and Jason Stephens (Bonnie) of Parkersburg and brother Larry Abbott (Regina) of Washington.
Joyce also leaves behind eight grandchildren whom she adored: Shawn Buskirk, Ashley Morrison (Chad), Jacob Stephens (Lily), Samantha Bailey (Adam), Jessica Campeau (Benjamin), Cassandra Catanese (Joseph), Jaylie Stephens (Tristan Grounder) and Jeremy Stephens along with great-grandchildren: Layni, Braxton, Kensley, Orion, Rebecca, Syris and Aliyah.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Jerry A. Stephens in 1989, brother Alvin Ray Abbott and daughter-in-law Lisa Stephens.
Funeral services will be Wednesday 11 a.m. at the New Hope Baptist Church with Pastors Troy Nesselrode and Scott Morehead officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen North Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church and one hour prior to services.
