Corporal James “Jim” R. Smith, with 3rd Amphibious Reconnaissance Battalion Alpha Company, USMC, 57, of Middlebourne, WV, passed away on March 12, 2025. Jim was born in Nelsonville, Ohio, in 1967 and graduated from St. Mary’s High School class of 1986. A proud veteran, he served 6 years in the United States Marine Corps, and completed one tour of duty in Operation Desert Storm.
Jim was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was an animal lover, a huge Ohio State fan, and avid outdoorsman who loved to fish, golf, & hunt with his close friends and family.
Jim was an operator at Omnis Pleasants Power of Belmont, and was a member of the Boilermakers local #667 for over 20 years.
He is survived by his parents Rodney and Esther Lamp, St. Marys, WV: his wife of 25 years, Shari R. Smith, Middlebourne, WV; step-brother, Rodney Lamp and family half-sister Susan McFarland & family; his son Noah H. (Madeline) Smith, Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts; three step-daughters, Amanda (Damon) Stout, Marisa (Martin) Burmaster, and Shayna Phillips, Columbus, OH.; six grandchildren, Hannah, Lolah, Braxton, Austyn, Liam, River; his granddog Sadie; and loved by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Services will be held Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home in St. Marys, WV, with Pastor Claye Folger officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
