Tharrel Daugherty

Tharrel Daugherty, 85, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend- passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 11th, 2024, at Elizabeth Care Center after a brief battle with cancer. Tharrel was known for his kind and caring heart and will be sorely missed.

Tharrel was born September 14,1939, to Mary M. Daugherty (Murray) and Marvin D. Daugherty in Wirt County, West Virginia. He was a 1957 graduate of Wirt County High School, later going to work as a chemical operator at Dupont for 38 years until he retired at age 58.

A devout believer, he was an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church for 54 years where he held numerous roles. Above all, he loved spending time with his family. He will forever be remembered for his sense of humor and generous spirit.

Tharrel was an avid outdoorsman who loved riding his ATV, fishing, hunting on the family farm, and camping at Cranberry River and Holly River State Park with family and friends. He loved spending time at his newly renovated cabin in Wirt County. He also enjoyed watching WVU football and basketball.

Tharrel leaves behind his wife Patsy Daugherty of Elizabeth, WV, as well as his beloved sons, Douglas Daugherty and his wife Tammy Daugherty of Bridgeport, WV, and Darien Daugherty and his wife Jennifer Daugherty of Elizabeth, WV. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Jaclyn (Matt) Cooksey of Stewartstown, PA, Jessica (Jeffrey) Kidder of Washington, WV, Jenna (Brad) Emerick of Washington, WV, and Logan (Emily) Daugherty of Charleston, SC, and five great grandchildren, Kasen and Elijah Kidder, Margot and Sullivan Cooksey and Renley Emerick. Also surviving are stepchildren Debbie (Rick) Dennis of Elizabeth, WV, Kelley (Mark) Morris of New Baltimore, Ml, and Kenneth Bluew, Jr. of Ml.

Tharrel is preceded in death by his first wife of 54 years, Shirley Ann Daugherty; his father and mother, Marvin and Mary Daugherty; and infant siblings Marvin Jr., Mary, Grace, Linda and Lucille Daugherty.

At Tharrel's request, a private graveside service will be held at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Officiating will be Dr. Mary Beth McCloy. Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Tharrel's memory to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery fund at 2226 Elizabeth Pike, Mineral Wells, WV 26150.
