Ralph Edward Stanley, 78, of Parkersburg, WV, passed away after a long battle with cancer on Saturday, October 12th at his residence. He was born September 26th, 1946, in Parkersburg, WV to the late Roy Averill Stanley and Vacie C. (Kuhl) Stanley.
Ralph is survived by his wife of 56 years, Cher-rie Kay (O'Brien) Stanley; son Douglas Edward Stanley (wife Jessica and their sons Jacob and Cole, and daughter Cher-rie of Lakeworth, FL); daughter Michelle Lynn Allen (wife Penny and their sons Kyle, Cory, and Cody) of Littleton, MA; son Michael Keith Stanley of Belpre, OH. Ralph is also survived by his sister-in-laws, Patricia Antoline (and her son Jeff), Paula Moore O'Brien (and her son Jamie), Ingrid Ives, and brother-in-law Brian O'Brien (his wife Lori and their children, Emma and Connor O'Brien), as well as his nephew Ryan Hanna (and his children Riley and Alex).
In addition to his parents and in-laws, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law Christie O'Brien and his brothers-in-law, Fred O'Brien and Victor Antoline, and niece, Crystal Hanna.
Ralph was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and Marshall University. He served in the U.S. Army as a Captain, including service in Europe and at Fort Campbell, KY, as well as at the Quartermaster Center at Ft. Lee, VA.
During 19 total years of Federal Service, Ralph achieved a grade of GS-13. His service included time in Louisiana at the U.S. Department of Energy, in Washington, D.C. at the U.S. Department of Defense, and in Parkersburg, WV at the U.S. Treasury (Bureau of Public Debt). He later worked in several sales positions, including owning a printing business, working as a recruiter for the DeVry Institute of Technology, and as a salesman at Warner Pontiac KIA.
Ralph was a former member of the Marietta Noon Lions, a member of the American Legion (Post 15), and a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church of Parkersburg.
Graveside service will be held Saturday 1:00 PM at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg with Reverend Frank Miller officiating, Military Honors to follow.
