Hayward W. Hudkins
Hayward W. Hudkins went to be with his Heavenly Father and gained his Glory Crown on Oct. 17, 2024.
He passed away at the home of his daughter Helen Baker. Hayward was born on April 17, 1922, at Otterslide, WV. He was the son of the late Jackson and Mae Hudkins in Otterslide, WV. He was married to Vonda Leggett Hudkins until her passing in 1986. He later married Bertha Meredith until her passing in 2014.
Hayward worked many places and retired in 1985 from the Union Bank of Harrisville, WV. He loved woodworking and carpentry work, spending time with his family and talking. He was a member of the Ritchie County Farm Bureau and Harrisville Lions Club.
Beside both of his wives he was preceded in death by his sister, Ova Peterson, his son-in-law, Sherill Shuman, his youngest daughter, Teresa Grant, step-son, Larry Meredith and great-great-grandson, Benjamin Dulaney.
He is survived by his daughters, Helen Baker (Frank), Carolyn Shuman, son-in-law, Larry Grant, and step-daughter, Diane Cunningham. He had six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. He also had several nieces and nephews.
Hayward was a man of great faith. He was a member of the Auburn Baptist Church and later the Harrisville Baptist Church where he was a deacon for many years.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 21, 2024, at Raiguel Funeral Home, Harrisville with Pastor Bob Perine officiating. Burial will follow in the Harrisville IOOF Cemetery. Hayward’s favorite scripture came from the book of Joshua 24:15 “But as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.”
