Margaret Ellen Platt

Margaret Ellen Platt, 74, of Reedy, WV passed away September 6, 2024 at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, WV after an extended illness.

She was born November 19, 1949 in Corpus Christi, TX and was the daughter of the late Harry and Pearl Batton Bates.

Ellen was a 1967 graduate of Spencer High School and worked in the Radiology Dept. in Roane General Hospital. Ellen was a faithful member of Good Hope Baptist Church in Reedy, Tanner’s Cross Road Chapter of the DAR, a charter member of the Roane County Emergency Squad and Roane County Historical Society.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Rachel Platt of Reedy and Kate Short (Greg) of Peniel, WV; sister, Anna Flint of Spencer; two nieces; and three nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Steve Bates; sister, Mary Lynn Perrin; and brothers-in-law, Robert “Tex” Flint and Richard “Dick” Perrin.

Services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Pastor John Price officiating. Visitation will be 1:00 PM until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Ellen’s wishes were to donate her body to West Virginia University Medical School in Morgantown, WV and for her remains to be scattered on the family farm near Reedy.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the funeral home.
