Evelyn May Rhodes

Evelyn May Rhodes, 93, of Parkersburg, WV, departed this life Friday, Sept. 13, 2024, at Eagle Pointe Health Center, in Parkersburg, WV.

She was born on Feb. 15, 1931, in Buckhannon, WV, a daughter of the late Willis Lee and Gladys May (Mackey) Smith.

Evelyn was a graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School with the class of 1949. She went on to work as a clerk for McCroy’s in Baltimore, MD and later at B&B Pharmacy in Harrisville, WV both for 18 years. Evelyn was a longtime member of Ritchie Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed baking, playing bingo, and going to church. Every month she would enjoy going out to eat with her friends. But most of all she adored spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving children, Debra Stocktill of Culpeper, VA, Charles Rhodes (Kathy) of Huntingtown, MD, and Melinda Digman (Glen) of Davisville, WV; grandchildren, Rebecca Whited, Cathleen Beachboard, Francis Stocktill III, Kelly Digman, and Ashley Digman; great grandchildren, CJ, Xander, Dominick, Sydney, Bella, Jacqueline, Joseph, Iva, and Lincoln; and brother, Jim Smith of Buckhannon, WV.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Ralph Sherwood Rhodes; siblings, Katherine Kesling, Carl Smith and Edith Lewis.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the special girls at Eagle Pointe for taking such good care of Evelyn.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024, at Raiguel Funeral Home with Pastor Toby Dukich officiating. Burial will follow at the Harrisville IOOF Cemetery in Harrisville, WV. Visitation will take place Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m. the night prior.
