Robert “Bob” Eugene Epler

Robert "Bob" Eugene Epler, 81, of Tappahannock, Virginia, formerly of Parkersburg, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Parkersburg, West Virginia to the late Leo Emerson Epler and the late Erma Gay Heater Epler, Bob was a retired Civil Engineer who had worked for the states of Arizona and West Virginia over the course of his long career. He was a proud alumnus of West Virginia University and a longtime member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Robert had a deep appreciation for the natural world, especially birds. He could sit for hours quietly watching wildlife. He enjoyed nature photography and loved capturing images of nature as he saw it. Bob was also a talented woodworker. He enjoyed his retirement in Florida until his health faltered and he moved to Virginia to be closer to family.

Left to cherish his memory are his sister Eleanor Belcher (Mike); his cherished nieces and nephews: Hannah McDonald (Dan), Doug Burnside (Shelley), Gary Belcher (Missy) and Gina Belcher; many beloved great-nieces and great -nephews; his former wife Jennifer Spence; and many cousins, friends, neighbors and colleagues.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Gay; his sister Dorothy Renfro; and her husband John.

Per Bob's wishes his service will be a private scattering of his ashes with his immediate family. In lieu of flowers you may honor Robert's respect for nature and conservation by making a donation in his loving memory to The National Wildlife Federation at www.nwf.org.
