Richard N. “Dick” Durnell

Richard N. “Dick” Durnell, 92, of Parkersburg, WV, died Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Ohio Valley Healthcare. He was born September 17, 1931, in Parkersburg, a son of the late Paul and Cleo Durnell.

Dick was a 1950 graduate of Parkersburg High School. He worked several years for Parkersburg Tile Company before going to Marbon, Borg Warner, and GE. He retired from GE Plastics in January of 1991 after twenty-eight years of service at the age of fifty-eight. He loved antique cars, trucks, and especially street rods. He enjoyed driving them and showing them at car shows. Dick enjoyed the outdoors and loved working in his yard. He was a runner and ran in several half – marathons. He loved his precious dog Maggie.

Dick is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Carol. He is the proud father of two sons, Dr. Thomas Durnell (Charlotte Ankrom) of Sorrento, FL, and James Durnell (Diane) of The Villages, FL; and a daughter Suzanne Steinbeck (David) of Winston-Salem, NC. He is also survived by nine grandchildren Bria, Alicia, Devin, Dan, Timothy, Joe, Josh, John, and Sean; his nephews Mike Durnell (Joy) of Florida and Randy Durnell (Mickie) of Parkersburg; niece Patty Saunders (Emery) of Nitro, WV; and a sister and brother-in-law Pam and Larry Ice of Morgantown.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers Paul, Robert, Charles, and Gerald Durnell; sister Joette Moats; and a grandson, David.

Services will be Monday 11:00 AM at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Dr. Kurt Busiek officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 2-4 PM.
