Michael D. Price passed away on August 25, 2024, Parkersburg, WV, at the age of 48. He was born on June 28, 1976, to Don and Brinda Price and was a resident of Washington, WV.
Mike was a 1995 graduate of Parkersburg South High School. After graduation, he dedicated over two decades of service as an associate at Walmart in Vienna, WV. His commitment to his work was evident in the lasting relationships he built with both colleagues and customers alike, and his gentle demeanor made him a favorite among those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
From a young age, Mike was an avid chess player, a strategic mind that found solace and joy in the game’s structure and complexities. His love for chess led him to become an active member of the Wood County Chess Club and the United States Chess Federation, where he not only honed his skills but also formed lasting friendships.
Mike’s love for animals was evident in the care and affection he showed his beloved dogs, who were a constant source of joy in his life. His interests also included playing vintage video games, flea market shopping for books and collectibles, and watching various sports.
He is survived by his loving parents, Don and Brinda Price; his sisters, April and Natalie Price; and his nephew, Corbin Snider. Those who knew Mike would describe him as a gentle soul, a man whose kindness and quiet strength were a comfort to all. In the months before his passing, he found peace in rededicating his life to God. His life was a testament to the beauty of an unassuming spirit in a bustling world, a reminder for us all to find contentment in life’s simple things.
Funeral Services will be Friday 11:00 am at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, WV with Reverend David Carpenter officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be held Thursday 5-7 pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the West Virginia Chess Association at 444 Ashberry Drive, Flemington, WV 26347.
