Michael “Big Mike” Stewart

Michael “Big Mike” Stewart

Michael David Stewart passed away on Aug. 1, 2024, in his hometown of Parkersburg, WV.

Mike was born on April 14, 1950, to the late Herbert S. Stewart and Janita C. (Platt) Stewart. In his younger years, Mike was an excellent baseball player and had a lifelong passion of hunting and fishing. He enlisted in the United States Army as a teenager and served in Vietnam. Around town, Mike had a reputation that preceded him and was often referred to as "Big Mike" or "Sarge". As it turns out, time was this local legend's only kryptonite.

Left to cherish his memory and carry on his tales are his children Whitney Wells (Justin) and Michael Taylor; special granddaughters River and Lennyx Wells; sisters Crystal Hively (Daniel) and Laura Coocen; and many other family members, including his cousins Jackie Stewart, Jr. and Jerry Stewart and nephew Allen Stewart who provided excellent care for Mike.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by siblings Dianne "Sue" Mackey and Herbert "Lanny" Stewart and nephew David "Davey" Mackey, II.

Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Friends may visit Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and one hour prior to the services on Monday. Burial will follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery South with full military rites.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Mission 22 at https://mission22.com/?campaign=473246 or another deserving organization of your choice.
