Sally R. Davis, 87, of Vienna, WV, died Thursday, May 23, 2024, after a sudden illness. She was born in Morgantown, WV, the only child of the late Norman H. and Naomi (Furbee) Radford.
After early childhood years in Michigan, her family moved back to West Virginia where she graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1955. Sally returned to Morgantown for college where she met the love of her life, Fred L. Davis, Jr., while attending West Virginia University. After marrying in 1959, Sally and Fred started their loving family together raising three children, Debbie, John and Rick. Sally was the consummate homemaker whose house was a home to family and friends alike, with open arms greeting those who entered.
Sally's love of life and contagious smile brought joy, warmth and inspiration to all who were blessed to know her. Whether joining her many dear friends at bridge luncheons and social events, baking pepperoni rolls for her favorite WVU fans, or hosting traditional family dinners which frequently included extended family, Sally was a classic hostess. She always had the perfect food recipe and decor for the dinner table where laughter and happiness prevailed. Fond memories of family holiday tradition and good times were shared by all those in her presence.
After her beloved Fred's untimely passing in 1990, Sally led a multi-county region as director for the American Cancer Society where she started the first local Relay for Life in Parkersburg that expanded into surrounding counties. She was a strong cancer survivor from the 1980s, so the job was a perfect fit. Thousands of lives were touched by her unending care and concern throughout the years inspiring others to battle in sheer determination and live positively.
Her loving and supporting family was always foremost in her heart. Sally would always boast with pride talking about her beloved grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The gleam in her eyes shined brightly as the storytelling of family happenings seemed to endlessly rolled off her tongue. While every gift for family and friends received sincere heartfelt thoughtfulness, the greatest gift Sally gave to us all was love.
Sally lived a full life fondly touching hearts, inspiring minds, and calming souls of those around her. She knew no strangers, and her dedicated faith in Christ guided her every step along the way.
She was a lifetime member of "The Pink Church", Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, where her years of companionship were cemented in Godly foundations. She was a member of the Parkersburg Country Club, PEO Sisterhood Chapter L, the GFWC Parkersburg Women's Club, and West Virginia Symphony Orchestra of Parkersburg. Sally was Past President of the Parkersburg Junior League, and a proud alumni of Kappa Kappa Gamma women's sorority.
She is survived by three children Debbie Wright (John) of Wheeling, WV, John R. Davis (Felsie) of Vienna, WV, and Fred "Rick" L. Davis III of Vienna, WV, nine grandchildren Hayden, Elliott, Liza, Priscilla, John, Joel, Beyonce, Hallie, and Luke; and five great-grandchildren Jonah, Juliette, Jack, Emilia, and Violet.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frederick L. Davis, Jr.
