Sharon "Sherri" Lee Dawson, 76, of White Plains, MD, passed away on Feb. 12, 2024, at the Hospice of the Chesapeake in Waldorf, MD. She was the wife of Robert Lee Dawson, of White Plains, MD, having shared a loving marriage for 55 years.
She was born on Dec. 9th, 1947, to parents John and Leora (DeLong) Hammett in Parkersburg, WV. She graduated from St. Marys High School in St. Marys, WV, and attended Rivera College. She spent some time in a career in retail management, but her ultimate life's work was dedicated to being an amazing caregiver to her family and loved ones.
Sharon was a beloved and active member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Waldorf, MD, serving in the Chancel Choir, as Chairman of the Altar Guild, and as secretary of the United Methodist Women organization. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and knitting, photography, and hiking local walking trails with her husband and friends. She was also widely known as a proud member of "Red Sox Nation" as a fan of the Boston Red Sox.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, she leaves a lasting impact on the lives of countless people who were blessed to have known her and to have been even the smallest part of her life.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Mary Alice Deem. She is survived by her husband Robert; sister Johnna (Norris) Pieper of Zanesville, OH; sister Barbara (Charles) Morgan of Vienna, WV; son Gregory (Janinne) Dawson of Centreville, VA; grandchildren Benjamin Dawson and Brooke Dawson of Centreville, VA; "grandchildren by heart" Garrett Deen and Gabriel Deen; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at noon on March 2nd, 2024, at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 305 E. Smallwood Dr. in Waldorf, MD. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., with a repast to follow the service in the church Fellowship Hall.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the music department of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, or the Humane Society of Charles County.
