We remember and celebrate the life of Ellen (Kelley) Boone, a remarkable wife, mother, and sister who brought light, kindness, and pure love into our world. At the age of 71, Ellen departed from her earthly journey, leaving behind a trail of beautiful memories and cherished moments.
Ellen was born in Huntington, WV, raised her family in Parkersburg, WV, and retired to Richmond, VA.
In Huntington, Ellen was raised by her parents (Harry and Charlotte Kelley, predeceased) with her siblings (Harry, Jr., predeceased, Kathy Petersik, and Elizabeth Fedde). She graduated from Marshall University, where she met and married her husband, Dean.
In 50 years of marriage, Ellen shared an extraordinary bond with Dean. Their love grew through many years of working together at a family-owned haberdashery, Hornor & Harrison. They were an inspiration and served as a testament to the enduring power of love and laughter.
Her greatest joy was her family. She was a confidant, protector, promoter, and safe haven to her children, Travis (Catherine) and Megan (Anthony Mishler). They are forever grateful for the smoothed paths, diminished shadows, and unseen boost that enhanced their lives. She leaves behind a legacy of love and nurturing that will be passed down through generations.
Ellen relished her role as a grandmother - "Gimmy" to her beloved grandchildren. She adored her grandchildren Elsa, Edison, Caden, Eden, and Lila and was a constant source of joy and kindness in their lives. Ellen was dearly loved by her grandchildren, and her memory will live on in the stories and lessons she shared with them.
She provided warmth, kindness, and unwavering support to her family. Ellen spent years caring for her mother with her wonderful sisters. Her thoughtfulness touched the lives of countless individuals, and her memory will forever be a reminder of the goodness that exists in this world.
As we say goodbye to Ellen, we remember her with fondness and gratitude. Her legacy of love, care, and the joy she brought into our lives will remain in our hearts forever. She leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us all.
A private celebration of Ellen's life will be held on Oct. 7, 2023, Richmond, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Science Museum of Richmond or your local children's museum.
Ellen reminded us of the words of Henry Scott-Holland -- "All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before. How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!"
She may be gone from our sight, but her memory will forever shine brightly in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Ellen. You are dearly missed, but your love and legacy will live on for generations to come.
