In loving memory of our father, Rolland Thompson, who passed away on September 15, 2023. He was the devoted husband of Janet and loving father of Karen Thompson, Diane Bussard (Aaron), Robert Thompson (Missy) and Brenda Thompson (Meryl). In addition, Rolland is survived by his brother Chuck (Betty) Thompson and sisters Colleen Starrett and Connie Thompson, grandchildren, and great grandchildren Morgan Reesves (Daniel), Ashton Bussard, Madeline Thompson, Abby Thompson, Kel Thompson, Paisley Reeves, Kylie Reeves, and Conleigh Reeves. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Rolland was preceded in death by his father Charles Russell Thompson, his mother Anna Mae Thompson, and his sister Esther Bartlett.
One of the kindest souls on this planet, our father was a gentle, giving man who worked tirelessly to ensure that his family had everything they needed. He faced every challenge in life with admirable strength and courage.
Early in life, our father learned the importance of hard work and he instilled that same work ethic in us. He was always there for us in any circumstance. He was a man of strong faith and was a member of the Belpre Church of Christ for over 65 years. He taught us the importance of family, hard work and doing what is right.
Rolland was a microbiologist for the United States Army from 1959 to 1963 and spoke about his many travel destinations while serving for his country in this very important role. He continued his career as a microbiologist until 1998 when he retired from General Consultants Inc. and Excel Med Lab. His love for music was also important to him. He not only was a self-taught musician but was a faithful servant at his church in this capacity for many years.
Our father was a true role model who we will always look up to.
The Memorial Service will be on Friday, September 22, 2023 at 1:00 PM at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre with Ron Laughery and Jeff Stevenson officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12:00 pm til time of service. Graveside services will be held at the Ilff Cemetery in Crooksville, Ohio at 3:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Comfort Keepers of Marietta, Ohio, Belpre Church of Christ, Belpre, Ohio, Belpre Landing or the Buckeye Hospice.
Father you are now at peace, but you will live on forever in our hearts. We love you so much. Rest in peace.
